Wii Party it's such a blast with friends. Nothing better than having a group of nearly 30 years old, in the floor all hearing carefully which Wiimote sounds like a horse.TV Show King 2 (WiiWare) was an unexpected surprise a few days ago when my friends came over.
I got it, because I like games like that (like Wheel of Fortune). My friends thought it was going to be boring, but they enjoyed it and one of them got it too. The game also offers one downloadable (free) expansion based on questions people can create and submit; and it can be played online too. Costs $8 (800 points). Try your best to avoid Mario Party 8.If you want a game from that series, there's Mario Party 2 on the Virtual Console for starters. And, if you can get four Gamecube controllers, the the four Gamecube ones are at your disposal (and I recommend Mario Party 6 the most out of all of them; good boards that change up the formula, and great minigames).Wii Party is a lot of fun as well.
The minigames are just like Mario Party's. A couple of the game modes fall flat, but Board Game Island and Balance Boat alone are worth the price of admission, and you may find other parts of the game you enjoy as well. Basically a no-brainer if you like Nintendo's Mii integration games. Here's what my friends and I play before going out:Mario Party 8 Drinking Game:1. Every coin you pick up = one 'drink' to pass out2. Pick up a star = pass out 1/2 of a full drink/can etc3. Every time you use the map or store, you must drink the entire time4.
If you say 'coins' instead of 'coin', you must take one 'drink'Mario Kart No Drinking and Driving:Start race with full can of beer, you must finish the beer by the end of the race. However: you cannot drink while holding the controller.EDIT: Guess it's not really for playing family. Here are some excellent multiplayer WiiWare titles. I've probably put more time in these than in most retail games.Motoheroz - I can't recommend this physics based racer enough, in multiplayer mode it's incredibly frantic and fun. You can do a Mario Kart style 'all cup' with a score table. It's the best downloadable title on WiiWare IMO.Driift Mania - Think 'Ironman's Off Road' or 'Micro Machines', play in Mario Kart 'all cup' style with up to 8 human or AI controlled players (one player uses wiimote, other player nun-chuck, etc).Tetris Party - This is basically four player Tetris with powerups, if you know Tetrinet you know what to expect.TV Show King 2 - A four player trivia game, with wheel of fortune mechanics.
It contains a lot of questions over a variety of topics and has multiple difficulty settings. The presentation is really cool. And these are retail games on Wii which I regularly play with friends:Marbles: Balance Challenge - The toughest multiplayer marble rolling game I've ever played. Featuring a ton of content in terms of levels and has a levelbuilder.NBA Jam - With Wii remote and nun-chuck this version is probably a tad more accessible than its HD counterparts.Trackmania - If you're craving a time trial game with hundreds of tricky courses this is it. It's basically the Marbles!
